Definitive comparison between the Honda Gold Wing and its ‘Chinese copy’, the Souo S 2000 ST

At Solo Moto we have been following in the footsteps of the ‘Chinese Gold Wing’the motorcycle that has been developed by Souo Motorcycle, a brand of Great Wall Motor (GWM), in the image and likeness of the great Honda model. The Souo S 2000 ST was released in Mayat which time we learned its final image and some details such as the name of the model, not revealed until that moment. Now we can put the Souo S 2000 ST and the Honda Gold Wing face to face.

And the big headline in this -indirect- comparison is that Souo’s model is bigger, More powerful and heavier than the Gold Wing. The Souo S 2000 ST with trunks has a weight of 461 kilograms, a slightly lower figure for the Bagger version without a passenger backrest. In any case, The Chinese model weighs between 71 and 83 kilos more than the Honda Gold Wingsomething that lies in part of its engine.

The 154 HP 8-cylinder boxer engine is one of the largest on the market.

Two more cylinders

Although the boxer engine of the S 2000 ST has the same structure as the boxer engine of the Honda Gold Wing, with which it also curiously ‘shares’ chassis, double wishbone front suspension and rear suspension, The Chinese firm’s engine is a 2,000 cc boxer with eight cylinders that yields 154 HP of power.

For its part, The original Gold Wing features a 1,833 cc, six-cylinder engine with 125 hp. The difference is almost 30 hp.

For now the torque of the GWM block is unknown, but should exceed the 170 Nm of torque of the Honda Gold Wing. Beyond this information, what does seem clear is that Souo has gone all out and we are looking at one of the largest boxer engines on the market. To realize its full potential, Souo is committed to a dual-clutch transmission with 8 gearswhile Honda’s DCT system has 7 speeds.

The TFT screen on the instrument panel is impressive and is accompanied by two large speakers.

At the design level, as usually happens in these cases, the ‘seven differences’ game may not be completed. It is true that the instrumentation area is very different, among other things thanks to the huge TFT screen and the speakers of the S 2000 ST, but it is also evident that the switch console in the tank, the position of the controls of seat heating and Many other details are a carbon copy of the Honda Gold Wing. Of course, it doesn’t look like the S 2000 ST is going to arrive in Europe.
