MIAMI, Florida – A tragic accident that occurred this Sunday at approximately 2:15 am left one person dead on the Florida Turnpike at mile marker 12, according to Lieutenant Alex Camacho of the Florida Highway Patrol ( FHP).
The crash, which involved two vehicles, resulted in the driver and passenger of one of the vehicles being transported to Jackson South Hospital. Unfortunately, the passenger later died in hospital.
Police closed the southbound lanes of the highway in Cutler Bay Sunday morning after the fatal crash. Cameras in the area captured a heavy police presence near the Eureka Road exit. The video also showed two damaged cars, one of them with serious damage.
This fatal crash occurred just hours after another fatal crash on the same highway in southwest Miami-Dade on Saturday night. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of both crashes while urging drivers to use extreme caution on the road.
