[Rumor] Death Note could have a new game

One of the most popular ‘manga’ and ‘anime’ of the 2000s could return in the form of a video game. Thanks to a recent registered trademark in Europe we found out that there are plans to make a new work related to Death note and all the clues point to it being a new game based on the Kira saga.

We found out about this through the eXputer forums. A user known as Kurakasis—labeled on those forums as a “trusted informant”—found two new Shueisha Inc. trademarks for the European Union. The first one simply says Death note and the second is named Death Note Killer Within.

The first thing that comes to mind is that this trademark could refer to the live action series based on the ‘anime’ that was announced by Netflix a while ago. However, there are reasons to believe that this is not the case. The application of Death Note Killer Within It was registered under the classification of “goods and services”, which is the designation they usually make when registering a new game.

These, of course, are just assumptions. Can be anything. Meanwhile, anime fans have been joking about what kind of game it would be.

It is worth noting that, if it comes true, Death Note Killer Within It wouldn’t be the first game in the series. In the past three games based on the ‘manga’ and ‘anime’ were released for Nintendo DS called Kira Game, Successors to L and L the Prologue to Death Note: Spiraling Trap. These belonged to the genre of social strategy and deduction. Kira and other characters from the series have also appeared in crossover games such as Jump Force.
