A court ruling gave rise to the appeal for protection recently presented by the province of Tierra del Fuego to stop increases in gas service, so it will remain suspension of the application of the new tariff scheme, at least for the next few months.
The presentation had been made weeks ago by the provincial government with the participation and support of the three municipalities, as well as practically unanimously by the entire society.
A massive petition had just been faced throughout the island that was reflected by the collection of thousands of signatures from citizens, supporting the request of the government authorities to the Federal Justice so that the excessive increases in the essential service do not advance.
The resolution favorable to the appeal for protection occurred in the context of the severe wave of polar cold that hits the province with red alert for extreme temperaturesespecially at the threshold of the beginning of the winter period.
“I want to express my satisfaction with the recent ruling that protects our citizens. The suspension of resolutions 41/2024 and 122/2024 of the Ministry of Energy of the Nation ensures that the new gas tariff tables are not applied, easing the burden economic impact on our families,” Governor Gustavo Melella celebrated publicly.
Furthermore, the president specified that the judge’s ruling “prevents Camuzzi Gas del Sur from cutting off the supply due to non-payment under these unfair rates,” which – he stressed – constitutes “a step towards justice and the protection of our rights in these moments of extreme temperatures that hit our province and the Patagonian region.
