Ridley Township authorities are investigating an incident where three men allegedly robbed a discount store and fired several shots at a witness before leading police on a chase that ended in Philadelphia.
The incident unfolded around 9:17 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26 after officers were dispatched to a reported armed robbery call at a Family Dollar store, according to authorities.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers learned that three men had entered the store and demanded cash from employees at gunpoint, police said.
The individuals stole large amounts of cash and cigarettes before fleeing the store, officers said.
However, once in the parking lot, the three men raised firearms and fired several shots at a witness, officers said.
Despite the attempt, the witness was not injured and the gunmen drove away in a gray sedan toward the city of Philadelphia.
Officers pursued the vehicle and once it reached the intersection of 65th Street and Cobbs Creek Parkway in Southwest Philadelphia, it stopped and the three men attempted to flee on foot.
Officers said they were able to detain one of these men and allegedly found cash and cigarettes on him, which are believed to have been taken in the robbery.
Officers also recovered a stolen firearm, and in the vehicle the men abandoned, they recovered cash, coins and cigarettes that were “scattered throughout the vehicle.”
Police are still searching for the two other men believed to be involved in this incident and an investigation is ongoing, authorities said.
