06/27/2024, Xalapa, Ver.- As part of the academic collaboration agreement signed between the Universidad Veracruzana (UV) and the University of Nebraska at Omaha, United States, ten students from this educational institution spent ten weeks at the School for Foreign Students (EEE) of this university.

Celia Cristina Contreras Asturias, director of the academic entity, announced that under the coordination of Laura Walls, the group of students – the first to arrive in the post-pandemic period – arrived on May 18 and concludes their stay on Friday, June 28, a period in which they received classes in intermediate Spanish, intensive Spanish B1 and B2, Spanish workshops, Mexican culture and civilization, folk dance and Latin dances.

They also visited the Anthropology Museum of Xalapa (MAX) and the surrounding areas of this city.

At the University of Nebraska, students study Biology, Medical Sciences, Political Science, Spanish, Journalism, Primary and Secondary Education, Business, Foreign Languages, Psychology and Criminology.

The Director of the EEE specified that, unlike previous groups that stayed in hotels in the city, this group, made up of nine women and one man, decided to stay in the homes of Xalapa families, to experience Mexican culture up close.

Patricia, who is studying to be an interpreter, commented on her desire to travel to learn about Mexican culture; “I arrived at the Universidad Veracruzana and I find it very beautiful, with very kind teachers, Xalapa is a city with a lot of history, I would like to return later accompanied by my parents.”

Arlín García, daughter of Mexican parents born in California, acknowledged that she speaks little Spanish and that at the invitation of her teacher Laura Walls, she agreed to come to UV “to learn more about the language, about my race and my culture; Although I learned Spanish since I was little, I have been losing it little by little, and what better than coming to Xalapa, which is a sister city of Omaha,” she said.

Meanwhile, Madison Eisert said that she liked the School for Foreign Students, “I learned a lot, I got along well with my classmates”; She remembered that she had previously visited Mexico on vacation, but that this time she felt it was different and she improved her Spanish.
