On the afternoon of Thursday, June 27, 2024, authorities announced that one of the sons of former Colombian soccer player Iván René Valenciano was captured in Medellín. Apparently, the suspect, identified as Jacobo de Jesús Valenciano Yepes, had intimidated a woman with a firearm in a commercial establishment in the Belén neighborhood of the capital of Antioquia.

Once he threatened his victim, the alleged criminal, aged 18, stole his belongings, which included a gold chain and a cell phone, which were valued at more than 14 million pesos. After the incident was reported, uniformed National Police deployed a padlock plan and found the whereabouts of Valenciano, who was detained and placed at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office.

As indicated by the National Police, Valenciano, who was arrested in flagrante delicto when he was traveling on a motorcycle through the capital of Antioquia, must answer for the crimes of aggravated and qualified robbery, trademark falsification, and manufacture, trafficking and possession of firearms.

The arrest was made in flagrante after the man allegedly stole a person’s belongings in commune 16, in Belén“, explained the National Police.

A video that went viral on social media shows that the son of the former Colombian soccer player, who played for teams such as Junior, Medellín, Millonarios, among others, arrived at a bakery in commune 16 of the Capital of the Mountain and threatened his victim with a firearm.

Immediately afterwards, He got on his motorcycle again and fled. However, thanks to the security cameras installed in different areas of the city, the authorities intercepted the vehicle, with license plates LCP14C, and arrested the 18-year-old man.

In fact, in the same video you can see the moment when Valenciano gets out of a National Police patrol car to pose next to the firearm and the motorcycle he was riding, items that were seized by the National Police.

Iván René Valenciano Pérez is a Colombian former soccer player, born on March 18, 1972 in Barranquilla. Known for his ability as a striker, Valenciano stood out in Colombian football during the 1990s and 2000s. He began his professional career at Junior de Barranquilla, where he became one of the club’s top scorers and left an indelible mark on the local league.
