Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalvereferred on Thursday afternoon to the controversy over the advisor’s dismissal Juan Andrés Lagos (PC).
From La Moneda, the government authority said: “In labor matters, I have a practice beyond the role that corresponds to me today as Undersecretary of the Interior: All the people who depend directly on me, I always speak with them before hiring them. And if at any time I consider it necessary to end that employment relationship, I always speak with them before ending that relationship. There is no exception in this regard, none.”
Monsalve said that “During these days there have been several changes within the Undersecretariat of the Interior. “One at the advisor level, two at the division head level.”
“These are positions that depend directly on me. And therefore, before hiring them, I always spoke with all of them and before the contract ended, I always spoke with all of them.”he expressed.
As for the reasons for removing the Communist Party figure from the position of advisor to the undersecretary, he said: “Decisions have only one purpose. The roles played by the Undersecretary of the Interior are extremely important for the country. And all the decisions taken by the Undersecretaries of the Interior are based on fulfilling the functions of the government.”
And then he added: “Carry out those functions well, because they are extraordinarily important for the country. “The reasons will always be those, there is no other reason.”
Prior to these statements by Monsalve, in private at La Moneda they assured that Lagos visited the presidential palace on Tuesday – something he did not do every day due to his status as an honorary employee. and he had a conversation with the undersecretary, in which there were other advisors, in which his departure was settled.
The narrative of the Palace and the undersecretary differs from the statements of the now former advisor and also from the leadership of the PC represented by its president Lautaro Carmona.
This morning, Lagos referred for the first time to his removal in dialogue with Radio Nuevo Mundo and recounted the previous days. “To be strictly rigorous, in the past few weeks I had an exchange, regarding this pressure that was generated and was being generated from the right.”, he started pointing out.
He even added, “There was a whole work procedure in place to ensure that all this pressure would not harm the work of the Undersecretariat in particular.”
“But I was never told that I was on the verge of a situation that would end with my departure.. “I was not told that,” she stated.
Carmona, meanwhile, at a press conference at the headquarters of the community – flanked by Lagos himself – assured that he was not aware of the decision and that he learned of the news through the press, that is, after the publication from La Tercera this Wednesday.
What’s more, the helmsman raised his tone and indicated that “in these 24 hours I still have no explanation. I insist, it is not an obligation, it is only if one wants. An explanation to the person in charge of the PC, which is the condition of Juan Andrés Lagos’ militancy, and that this became a public debate, particularly on the part of the right, even demanding his exit due to his communist status.”
