This weekend Moixent will celebrate the feast of Sant Pere, patron saint and titular of the parish church. Throughout the month of June, a whole series of events have been offered with various themes and aimed at all audiences, such as sports championships and exchange concerts. But this weekend, the high point of the celebration, will see the most traditional and liturgical events.

On Saturday morning, Sant Pere’s Day, there will be a solemn mass in honor of the Patron Saint, a concert and the solemn procession that, for the second year, changes its itinerary and will once again see the dances performed along its route.

The program, in the words of the parish priest, Lisardo Castelló, “tries to revive traditional culture and reflect on the exemplary nature of the first Pope and main apostle of Jesus of Nazareth.”

Saint Peter the Apostle in Moixent

The devotion to San Pedro Apostol as head of the parish church of Moixent dates back to the 15th century. In the previous church, the main altar was dedicated to Saint Peter, and there was also another dedicated to “Saint Peter and Saint Catharina Martyrs.”

There is a street named after him in the town, and in the Cooperativa del Camp that bears his name, there is a ceramic panel depicting him. The Sant Pere festivities have been declared a Festival of Local Tourist Interest since 2020.
