ANDhe death of Omar Geles, on May 22, shocked the entire nation. The Colombian singer, accordion player and composer stood out for his talent and leading a successful musical career. His departure left a great legacy and sound repertoire that will make his voice never stop ringing.

Since the announcement of his death, many people have dedicated themselves to listening to his songs and thinking about the most memorable moments of the ‘A Blank Sheet’ performer.

Within this list of experiences and exploits was found a fight he had with Diomedes Díaz in the middle of a presentation before thousands of fans.

In the context of a concert, in 2005in the Plaza Alfonso López de Valledupar, the ‘Cacique of the Junta’ I had given him a few minutes to sing a piece of ‘I can’t live without you’theme of his authorship.

He took a breath and closed his eyes, ready to sing from the soul, but Díaz didn’t even let him start. Confused by the sudden change of mind, Geles complained to him. “You told me to sing and don’t shut up now…”Told him.

“Play the accordion”, was what he told her and repeated it several times. A member of the staff even arrived and removed the accordion player from the microphone that the ‘dad of the chicks’ had given him.

Diomedes then hugged him, but, as the pictures show, Geles was upset and uncomfortable and did not receive the gesture. Instead of continuing with the presentation, as he should have, he got off.

Although it was a moment of great tension between the two Vallenato artists, it did not escalate. On May 26, 2023, the same Omar Geles published a video on social networks remembering the situation.

“Who remembers this anecdote that I lived next to the greatest of Colombian folklore, Diomedes Díaz? He left, but his voice continues to sound everywhere, he is my favorite composer along with Gustavo Gutiérrez. Always in our hearts cacique,” he wrote in the description.

The artist said that he did not know how the ‘Cacique de la Junta’ was going to react after the scene. However, they met years later in Barranquilla. Geles tried to hide, but Diomedes called him and He told him that neither of them had been to blame, that they were normal things in folklore.
