After the strange announcement that Netflix made in May about the renewal of ‘The 3 Body Problem’, the streaming platform has finally confirmed that will give the series by David Benioff, DB Weiss and Alexander Woo two more seasons.

At first there was talk of “additional episodes” to “tell this story to its epic conclusion”which generated confusion and speculation, but during a panel of the series within the Netflix FYSEE space that the platform uses to promote its products for award seasons (in this case for the Emmys), Weiss himself clarified that ‘The 3-body problem’ will have as many seasons as there are books in the Cixin Liu trilogy on which it is based:

“We include a lot of what we love about [novelas] in Season 1, but the vast majority of the reasons we wanted to do this show are in Season 2. We always wanted to get to the final page of the third book, and it’s really exciting for us to be able to do that.”

Season 2 of ‘The Three Body Problem’ will be based on the novel ‘The Dark Forest’, the second installment of the trilogy, when there are 400 years left to defend against the inevitable: the arrival of the Trisolaris.

The greatest threat in human history

The series narrates humanity’s first contact with an extraterrestrial civilization and how the fateful decision of a young woman in China in the 60s has repercussions on the present through time and space. A group of brilliant scientists will then have to collaborate with an unorthodox police officer to confront the greatest threat in history. ‘The Three Body Problem’ stars Jovan Adepo, John Bradley, Rosalind Chao, Liam Cunningham, Eiza González, Jess Hong, Marlo Kelly, Alex Sharp, Sea Shimooka, Zine Tseng, Saamer Usmani, Benedict Wong and Jonathan Pryce. Its first season, which has 10 episodes, is now available on Netflix.
