Since a new series was confirmed within the ‘The Office’ universe, information has been coming out in dribs and drabs. First it was known that it would be another mockumentary, in which the team that filmed the incidents in the Dunder Mufflin office will move this time to a midwestern newspaper whose viability hangs in the balance. Shortly after we met the first, and so far only, confirmed actors: Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore. And now we have the official name of the series.
The title has been revealed in the writers’ union directory, where all writers have a file with their past and future projects. In Greg Daniels and Michael Koman’s file, the series was until now called ‘Daniel & Koman Untitled Project’, but They have finally given it an official title: ‘The Paper’. Yes indeed, It doesn’t have to be the definitive one., since many times the series go by many names until their premiere. And if not, tell it to the ‘Agatha All Along’ series…
Synopsis and start of production
On the WGA (US writers’ union) page where the name was revealed, a date also appears: 2024-2025. This agrees with the information that indicated that the start of production is planned for July 2024which would take us to its premiere in 2025. If the dates are finally true, in the coming weeks we should have important news about the cast.
A distribution in which Dunder Mufflin office workers will not be there, as Greg Daniels and Steve Carell himself have already confirmed. But, knowing that it takes place in the same universe, the nods to the paper company are taken for granted, and who knows if we will see a cameo from the former protagonists.
For now, focusing on ‘The Paper’, the official synopsis of the series is the following: “The documentary team that immortalized the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin searches for a new topic when they discover a historic Midwestern newspaper and its editor trying to revive it with volunteer reporters“.
