He National Television Council (CNTV) turned on the alerts when receiving complaints from users for a situation displayed on Channel 13 and TVN.
At the beginning of this year, an assault on the canal was recorded in Ecuador TC Television, where hooded men interrupted the development of the news program, threatening the presenters and the production team.
The situation occurred during the afternoon and the media around the world did not delay in reporting the event, interrupting their regular broadcasts, as happened on TVN and Channel 13.
However, this coverage was the subject of questions from viewers. According to the minutes of the CNTV session held on May 27, user complaints indicated that both television stations showed crude images of what was happening in Ecuador during child protection hours during the news 24 Central and Teletrece Central.
Given this, the regulatory entity decided to review the content broadcast by the two national channels, finding more than enough factors to lay charges.
“The existence of content can be verified that, given its nature, could be inappropriate for viewing by an audience in training, given that the exhibition, during the protection of minors from explicit images of kidnapping and death threats with weapons and explosive devices, could be harmful to emotional integrity and the well-being of the boys and girls who were present in the audience,” they explain.
Another person affected by a similar situation was VTR, since the CNTV filed charges as a result of the broadcast of the extra informative about the attack in Ecuador through 24 Hour Channel.
Although this signal belongs to the public chainthe justification of the action of the regulatory entity is based on the article 13 of Law 18,838 which establishes the responsibility of the company that transmits or retransmits channels.
“Concessionaires of free reception television broadcasting services and permit holders of limited television services They will be exclusively and directly responsible for any and all programs, national or foreign, that they transmit, even when they are transmissions or retransmissions via satellite.“, it is stated.
It is necessary to indicate that None of the charges made by the CNTV imply prejudgment or guiltsince the organization is waiting for the response that the affected media can provide.
