Much of Google’s income comes from the ads they implement in their various digital tools. Recently, The Verge has discovered that they will add ads to their Free Live TV app, the service from which they give access to more than 800 live channels completely free. The advertising network they have created allows advertisers to add spots in the broadcast that cannot be skipped. Thus, they will have a new source of income with their operating system for televisions.

Google Ads on Google TV

Currently, the company estimates that there are 20 million active devices per month that use Google TV or Android TV. According to his calculations, this figure could increase in the future. In fact, the forecasts are so positive that the brand claims that they will surpass YouTube, which reports claim to reach more than 150 million active viewers per month.

Of the number of people who consume Google TV, a report from the technology firm estimates that free channels are viewed an average of 75 minutes a day. This offer is the closest thing to traditional channels and, no matter how much Netflix, Prime Video and other platforms are on everyone’s lips, television is still widely watched anywhere in the world.

Many free channels of the aforementioned operating system are FAST channels. These acronyms refer to “Free Ad-supported Streaming Television” and are those television channels for which we do not have to pay, but which, in exchange, force us to watch advertising.

However, this is not very different from traditional Digital Terrestrial Television channels. With the large number of Google TV viewers, the company wants to introduce even more advertising and has launched a new advertising network so advertisers can promote themselves with ads targeting smart TVs.

Therefore, Google TV software is an advertising avenue that advertisers could begin to value. To do this, from now on, Google Ads can be broadcast through millions of televisions. In this way, advertising campaigns may arise directly designed for the public looking to watch the operating system’s free channels.

Free Live TV from Google TV

Google places great importance on its operating system for televisions offering a wide variety of audiovisual entertainment. Although there are many paid platforms that offer content in exchange for a monthly fee, the company wanted to provide free television options. That’s why last year it introduced a new live TV experience with more than 800 channels.

This is Free Live TV and it is right next to the “For you” section in the Google TV interface. Within its extensive programming, we can find channels in more than 10 languages, including Spanishand without paying a single euro.

However, everything has its cost and, in this case, there will be many advertisements. While Free Live TV channels already have advertising, more are expected to arrive with the launch of Google Ads for Google TV. At the moment, it does not seem that the company is going to offer a small subscription for those who do not want to watch extra spots, so there will be no way to avoid them.
