Season 4 of ‘The Boys’ recently premiered on Amazon Prime Video. Well, its first three episodes and from now on one more chapter will be released every week until this installment of the series reaches its end on July 18. Then it is officially confirmed that season 5 will be the last and now its creator and showrunner Eric Kripke has spoken about it.
Why 5 seasons
To begin with, Kripke wanted to make it clear that The plan was always for ‘The Boys’ to have five seasonsbut he noted in Deadline that “we weren’t allowed to say it“-although the truth is that this possibility was discussed at the time-. In addition, he has commented the following about why that number of deliveries and not more or less:
I’ve been thinking about it, and my theory is that as a television writer I was trained in five acts. It makes sense to me to have enough time to get to know the characters, but not so much that I exhaust them.
Let us remember that Kripke was already behind ‘Supernatural’, a series that he abandoned after 5 seasons, since his plan was to end it then and not in the 15th installment. In this case, the mother series will end then, but the universe will move on with spin-offs like ‘Gen V’, in which he will give advice but will no longer act as showrunner.
Of course, Kripke knows that There are still another two years to go before the final season of ‘The Boys’ premieres. In fact, they are still working on the scripts for “try to fully figure out what’s going to happen“, although he also clarifies that “I know the point where I want to end“. The fourth season is heartbreaking because each character faces what traumatizes them the most. But I also have to say that it is very, very funny. I have to say that we are as dark as people have accused the series of being, and it is. At the same time, I think I’ve laughed more this season than ever before. That might speak to my own personal illness, but I think season four is really fun.
