In the latest episode of “The King of Mask Singer”, the masked singer “Banana Boat” captivated the crowd with his voice!
During the June 23 broadcast of the MBC singing competition, eight new contestants showed up to challenge the current champion for the throne.
In the final showdown of Round 1, “Banana Boat” took on his opponent via a duet cover of CNBLUE’s “Imitation.”

After watching his performance, many of the celebrity panelists guessed that Banana Boat was an idol. Sandara Park of 2NE1 went further and cryptically said, “Those specific hand gestures [que él usa] Don’t they remind you of something? Just as some people’s voices are immediately recognizable, there is an agency for which gestures are part of their identity. [Banana Boat] It seems very familiar to me and [sus gestos] They are hip and trendy.”
“I think I know who it is,” he continued, “but since I think I’m right, I’ll stay silent.”
The two masked singers then offered another clue to their identity by performing a special medley of summer-themed dance covers. Together, they danced fragments of the choreographies of “Summer Hate” by Zico“HOT” of SEVENTEEN and “So Cool” by SISTAR.
Although both singers earned praise from the celebrity panel, Banana Boat ultimately lost the round to his opponent by just 11 votes.
Banana Boat then performed an emotional rendition of the 1992 rock ballad by Kim Jong Seo, “You Who Do Not Answer.” Halfway through, he took off his mask to reveal that he was none other than the leader and main vocalist of TREASUREJihoon, who was previously Sandara Park’s labelmate at YG Entertainment before she left the company in 2021.
Kim Jong Seo, who was visibly impressed by Jihoon’s version of his song, praised the idol for his performance. “My original version of the song wasn’t that good [como la versión de Jihoon]”he exclaimed. “It was like a hybrid version… she was so full of energy, and her performance of his song while she sang was something she could never have imagined.”
The famous singer surprised Jihoon by saying, “I wrote this song, but take it. It’s yours”.
As a gift to viewers who were waiting to see Jihoon’s performance in the final round, after the episode aired, “The King of Mask Singer” posted footage of his rehearsal for round 3, during which he planned to sing “Tears at “The End of the Sky.”
