One of the visible faces of this dark day for the state is the journalist Benjamin Estibill, who arrived at the station in 2016, taking charge of different spaces. In statements to This Portal, Estibill announced the reasons for his departure from TVN, which are related to the fact that There are no contemplated projects that justify its continuity in the channel.
“The Culture area, where I was the only journalist, was left without projects and because the We’re going Vlog, program that was budgeted for the entire year, they froze it with the arrival of the new leadership because they clearly did not like the content, the form, I don’t know the truth,” said the 32-year-old journalist.
The professional clarifies that various projects were presented to continue at the station, however, were not accepted: “I presented some ideas that did not come to fruition, I don’t know if because the management didn’t like it or for other reasons, but in a way The channel disconnected me for not having any projects, being that at the beginning of the year there had been talk that this program would run all year roundbeing the only cultural space made from TVN, because all the rest is made by external producers or from the National Television Council, “So finally TVN was not making cultural programs”he explained.
“There were recorded programs that are not going to be broadcast or are probably going to be broadcast by another channel such as the International Signal. So the same As a journalist, I was involved with some people in recorded programs that were not going to be aired.”he claimed.
The journalist says that it was an expected situation. “Because Pitu (Valenzuela) left, Kevin (Felgueras) left, Yamila (Reyna) is no longer here, Gino (Costa) left, Paulina Alvarado left. They were like everyone from my generation and the only one left from there was me and I said ‘I’m already asked’, I was the one that was missing.”
Despite this bitter pill, Benjamín Estibill thanked the public channel for all the challenges and projects in which he participated during the eight years in which he was linked to the state company.
“I am happy for all the opportunities that the channel has given me, being in Viña, every communicator wants to get there and I achieved it (…) I wanted to make a different public television that was close to the new times, not to old television, but fighting against the current there was complicated.very difficult, due to changes in leadership. One arrives every year and a half. This one liked it, the other didn’t, everyone wanted new things from him,” he said.
What are Benjamín Estibill’s new challenges outside of TVN?
It is necessary to indicate that Benjamín Estibill not only appeared on the TVN screens, but a few years ago he had a YouTube channel in which he publicized unusual and curious places in the city.
At the moment The channel has more than 64 thousand subscribers and several of his videos exceeds 300 thousand reproductions. Therefore, his departure from the signal meant a a kind of relief to be able to grow on the platform.
“I was working two jobs because I’m full in making content on YouTube, People appreciate different cultural and paranormal content, interesting places, and history. The weekends full recording, editing, then I would come home from the channel to work and in the end it was taking its toll on me in terms of stress”he pointed.
In this context, Estibill believes that “leaving TVN is a good thing for me because I will have more time to dedicate to the platform that I started, because the channel didn’t like my note ideas (…) I started making a channel for that very reason and now YouTube became my job because I got paid from there.”
