DPRK celebrates Kim Il Sung’s birthday

The state news agency ACNC reported that thousands of people have paraded through the capital’s Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, where the remains of Kim Il Sung and his successor, Kim Jong Il, rest to pay tribute to them.

Wreaths are also laid on Mansu Hill – where colossal statues of the two leaders stand – and at Kim Il Sung’s birthplace in the Mangyongdae neighborhood of Pyongyang.

The scene is repeated in all the places associated with the struggles of whom they call the Father of the People here, such as in places where statues are raised in his honor. In addition, photographic exhibitions about his life and work are open in all the main cities of the country.

During the so-called Sun Festivals, which in the DPRK are equivalent to Christmas in the West, children are given gifts and many couples get married because these are considered auspicious dates.

According to ACNC, numerous political, social, cultural, sports and recreational activities have also been held these days in honor of the person recognized as eternal president of the Republic.
