The owner of the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Peru (MEF), Jose Aristaassured that his sector is working on the delimitation of a special economic zone (SEZ) in the Port of Chancay in order to attract private investment to the country.

“Chancellor Javier González-Olaechea has gone in search of large companies that could come to invest here in the Port of Chancay. Parallel to this advance of Peruvian diplomacy, we also have to advance in the legal part to delimit the special economic zone in which large investment projects can be developed,” Arista said at a press conference at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM).

“We are thinking about large companies that are going to come to assemble and from here this merchandise will be distributed to the entire south pole of the region. We believe that this can generate thousands of jobs,” he added.

In this context, the Peruvian minister noted that, to do so, work must first be done to provide the necessary public infrastructure and basic services in the area so that the companies that arrive can begin operations as soon as possible.

“We need to provide adequate infrastructure, public services, electricity, water, roads, security, institutions that train personnel, universities. That is part of the entire work agenda that we have with the different ministries so that these investments, when they come to the country, find the necessary space so that they can develop their economic activity,” he explained.

In that sense, Arista called on all those involved to work “double hours and on different fronts” in order to take advantage of the maximum potential that the Port of Chancay offers.
