QS University Rankings updated its list of the best universities in the world. For this edition, 1,500 institutions were included in 104 locations and took into consideration 17.5 million academic articles, as well as the opinion of more than 240,000 experts in the field.

To build the ranking, the firm also takes into account different metrics such as research, sustainability, employability, among others. Once these parameters are analyzed, a score is given to each institution.

When reviewing the data by region, three countries managed to position themselves in the top positions of the ‘top’ 10 for Latin America. These are: Brazil, Mexico and Argentina.

According to the data on the list, the University of São Paulo, in Brazil, took first place on the list. This public institution obtained a score of 62.8 out of 100, which placed it in 85th place in the general ranking.

Next is the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), with a score of 61.4. This academic venue improved its position in recent years and for this edition managed to be ranked among the top 100 in 93rd place.

The podium is completed by the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), which, although it fell in a few years from position 67 to 95, is one of the best universities in Latin America. On this occasion, the UBA obtained a score of 61.

The rest of the ‘top’ 10 are made up of: the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (UC), with 59.9; the University of Chile, with 50.2; the Tecnologico de Monterrey (Mexico), with 47.6; the University of the Andes (Colombia), with 46; the State University of Campinas (Brazil), with 42.7; the National University of Colombia, with 42.7, and the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, with 32.2.

When observing the classification by country, 25 Colombian higher education institutions appear on the list. This is the ‘top’ 3 universities:

1. Universidad de los Andes (score: 46 – general classification: 198).

2. National University of Colombia (score: 41.9 – general classification: 226).

3. Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (score: 31.4 – general classification: 347).
