(CNN Spanish) — After a meeting with authorities from the Prosecutor’s Office, the Undersecretary of the Interior of Chile, Manuel Monsalve, informed the press this Sunday that the Government will file a complaint to request the highest penalties for those found guilty of the death of three police officers in the Biobío region.
Monsalve explained that the complaint that will be filed will be for: homicide against police officers, violation of the weapons law and membership in a criminal organization.
Although the investigation remains confidential, the official said that the prosecutor’s office has all the means to find those responsible, that there are four prosecutors working on the case, as well as specialized teams of police officers.
In response to a question from the press about whether a criminal organization is behind the incident, the undersecretary stated that at least three people would participate in the crime due to the way in which the events occurred and also referred to the investigation of a telephone call from threat received by the security station.
