One person died and several were injured by the “strong turbulence” recorded on a flight Singapore Airlines from London to Singapore, which had to be diverted to Bangkok, the company reported this Tuesday. Emergency crews assisted passengers in stormy weather.
“We confirm that there were injuries and one death on board the Boeing 777-300ER. In total, there were 211 passengers and 18 crew members on board., the airline indicated in a statement through its official channels. “Singapore Airlines extends its deep condolences to the family of the deceased. Our priority is to provide all possible assistance to passengers and crew on board,” the company said in a first statement. The company reported that it sent a team to Thailand to facilitate this assistance.
Local emergency workers from Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital were waiting at the scene to transport the injured for medical attention.
Flight data recorded by FlightRadar24 and analyzed by The Associated Press (AP) showed that the Singapore Airlines flight had traveled at an altitude of 37,000 feet. Shortly thereafter, the Boeing 777 descended suddenly and sharply to 31,000 feet in a space of about three minutes. The aircraft stayed at that altitude for just under 10 minutes before descending quickly and landing in Bangkok in just under half an hour.
