Russia fired 100 missiles and drones into Ukraine overnight at energy facilities throughout the country, Ukrainian authorities said this Saturday (06/01/2024).

“The enemy launched 53 missiles of various types and 47 attack drones,” said the air force, which claimed to have shot down 35 of the missiles and 46 of the drones.

Two thermal power plants were damaged in the attack, energy company DTEK said, without specifying their location.

“It was another extremely difficult night for the Ukrainian energy sector. The enemy attacked two of our thermal power plants. The equipment was severely damaged,” the company said on Telegram.

Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began two years ago, Russia has launched hundreds of airstrikes against power facilities in the country.

According to Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko, Russia attacked facilities in the Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovograd, Ivano-Frankivsk and Zaporizhia regions.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on social media that “Russia’s main objective is to normalize terror, exploit the lack of sufficient air defense and the determination of Ukraine’s partners.”
