The statement comes after the alleged authorization of the President of the United States, Joe Biden, for kyiv to use American weapons in order to attack Russian soil from the province of Kharkiv.
«I would like to warn US officials of failures that could have fatal consequences. For unknown reasons they underestimate the severity of the response they may receive,” Riabkov said.
He also recalled that President Vladimir Putin “has spoken out repeatedly” on this issue and in that context, he called on Washington to treat the Russian warning “with the greatest seriousness.”
When it comes to attacks on Russian early warning systems by Ukraine, with the use of American weapons, Riabkov said that responses can be asymmetrical.
The US State Department previously stated that Biden authorized Ukraine to use US weapons to fight targets in Russian territory that threaten the Kharkiv area, but left in force the ban on the use of Atacms tactical-operational missiles.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov, for his part, asserted that Moscow is not aware of the alleged authorization by the American president.
However, he stressed that the fact that the Ukrainian military can carry out attacks against Russia using Washington’s weapons “eloquently shows the degree of involvement of the United States in this conflict.”
Meanwhile, the vice president of the Russian Security Council, Dmitri Medvedev, commenting on the information, assured that Ukraine and its allies will receive a devastating response if they use long-range Western weapons against Russian territory.
