The elected president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, thanked Cristina Kirchner for her congratulations after this Sunday’s elections through her official X account. Sheinbaum will be the successor of Andrés Manuel López Obrador and she belongs to the same political party, the National Regeneration Movement (Morena).
The former head of state of Argentina had recorded a video praising the “Mexican people” and the ruling party’s candidate, with whom she maintains a good relationship.
Sheinbaum took care of answering him. “Thank you for the message, Cristina Kirchner, former president of Argentina. Once again with the people of Mexico, we made history“, wrote.
Kirchner congratulated the Mexican people on the first female president of Mexico. He defined her as someone who “knew how to empower herself and improve the living conditions of many Mexicans with the conviction of a project and not from an individuality.”
Cristina Kirchner referred to yesterday’s day as “a women’s election”, not only because of Sheinbaum’s victory, but also because Clara Brugada, who will take the position of head of Government of the Federal District to replace the elected president. “In Argentina we are very happy about these results, which are not electoral, but political.”
He also considered the National Regeneration Movement as the “total and absolute basis for this historic triumph due to its profound transformations in Mexico.”
The former Argentine president, Alberto Fernandez, was present yesterday in Mexico to accompany Sheinbaum during the election. “I have had the privilege of hugging who will be the new president of this beloved country. A progressive woman will continue the task that my dear Andrés Manuel López Obrador began. Latin America celebrates,” she expressed.
As published by LA NACION, Claudia Sheinbaum became the first elected president of Mexico last night by winning the largest elections in the country’s history. Sheinbaum, the one chosen by Andrés Manuel López Obrador to succeed him, reached 58% of the votes and he had an overwhelming difference over his main rival, Xóchitl Gálvez, who did not exceed 29%.
According to the “quick count” of the National Electoral Institute (INE), the autonomous body that manages elections in Mexico, Sheinbaum’s victory reaffirmed the turn to the left outlined by López Obrador and the popular support for the “fourth transformation”, which launched in 2018 with its arrival at the National Palace. And he confirmed the sharp decline of the right and the traditional parties, the PRI, the PAN and the PRD, which, together, obtained less than a third of the votes.
