The police of France arrested this Monday afternoon a Russian-Ukrainian young mana native of Donbas, who was in possession of explosive material and is being investigated for suspicions of terrorism.

The man, whose identity was not revealed although his age was 26 years old, was in a hotel room in the city of Roissy-en-France, in the north of the country, where he made the explosive devices that, it is believed, would be used in an upcoming attack. It was about homemade mobile phone batteriescovered in plastic, with a match, gunpowder and a flammable liquid.

However, one of them explodedspraying his face with acetone peroxide and causing him severe burns on his torso and face.

A few moments later, firefighters arrived at the scene, assisted him and took him to the Gonesse hospital. At the same time, the Police together with the National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office began the raids in the room, where in addition to finding the explosives, they were found money, fake passports and weapons.

As a result, the man was taken into police custody at the headquarters of the French secret services (DGSI) and accused of “participation in a terrorist association of criminals” and “carrying incendiary or explosive substances or products, or elements intended for to manufacture an incendiary or explosive device in order to destroy, degrade or attack people with a terrorist purpose.”

Theories about his plans are still multiple. Some investigators believe that he could be a member of a terrorist group that was plotting an attack in the country – although everything indicates that he was operating alone – while the local media Le Journal du Dimanche He maintains that he is also believed to be a Russian spy who planned to destroy French weapons that would be sent to Ukraine.

In any case, France is in maximum alertless than two months before the start of the Olympic Gameswhich will attract hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world, at a time of great geopolitical tension, with wars raging in both Gaza and Ukraine.

Without going any further, the day before, three people were arrested in Paris after having, allegedly, placed five coffins at the foot of the Eiffel Tower covered with a french flag and a disturbing message: “French soldiers in the service of Ukraine”. The subjects were from Bulgaria, Germany and Ukraine and the motive for their actions is still unknown.

Also, last Friday, the secret services arrested a 18 year old Chechen who was planning a jihadist attack during one of the Olympic football events at the Saint Étienne city stadium. According to him, his objective was to attack the spectators present at the Geoffroy Guichard, the security agents and, finally, die on the spot.

All of these acts also take place at a time when Emmanuel Macron increased his criticism of Vladimir Putin and intensified his assistance to kyiv, even allowing it to use its weapons on enemy soil under the argument of legitimate defense. Likewise, recently the president was in favor of sending troops to train soldiers in Ukraine itself, something that the Kremlin called “dangerous.”
