“In Gaza it seems more like an annihilation of civilians than a war”: Putin

Israel’s military operation in Gaza in response to the Hamas attack looks more like a “total annihilation of the civilian population” that a war, the Russian president stated this Wednesday, Vladimir Putinin an interview with the heads of the main international news agencies, including EFE.

“We are against terrorism in all its manifestations, against attacks against the civilian population anywhere and in any country, but what is happening now in Gaza in response to the terrorist attack in Israel does not look much like a war”said the head of the Kremlin.

According to Putin, “this is a kind of total annihilation of the civilian population”.

The Russian president denounced that this conflict “it is a consequence of US policy, which monopolized the Palestinian-Israeli process and discarded all the tools previously created within the framework of collective attempts to solve this very complex issue”.

He added that this monopoly position inevitably leads the US to take sides “by one of the sides”thereby moving the solution away from the conflict.

“I do not believe that the solution of political issues linked to the destiny of the Palestinian people in a historical perspective can be supplanted by handing out certain economic goodies”he said, insisting that the solution must lead “to the essence of the conflict.”

He insisted on the importance of “the creation of two States, as initially planned by the UN decision” as the main way to end the conflict, and highlighted that there are people in both the US and Israel who also support that way.

“I must say that in this sense Russia assumes a position of principle that does not depend on circumstances: we recognized the Palestinian state a long time ago, since Soviet times. In that sense our position has not changed”he concluded.
