Javier Milei will shorten his European tour, which was to include the G7 summit in Italy, two ceremonies to receive academic awards in Madrid and Hamburg, official meetings with Emmanuel Macron and Olaf Scholz in Paris and Berlin, and a conclave in Ukraine with Volodymyr Zelenskywhich resists the latest Russian offensive launched by Vladimir Putin from the Kremlin.

Today it was reported that he will not attend the next G7 summit that will be held in Borgo Egnazia, an ancient town on the shores of the Adriatic Sea, between June 13 and 15. Nor at the Peace Summit that was going to be held in Switzerland. He was also scheduled to be in Paris on 19th of June to maintain a bilateral meeting with Emmanuel Macron, the French president and one of the top political leaders of the international system. That is, he would also suspend the first official visit to a European president since he began his mandate on December 10.

With the changes, in principle the head of state would travel only to receive the Juan de Mariana award “in exemplary defense of the ideas of freedom”, in Madrid, scheduled for the 21st; and he would travel the next day to Hamburg, Germany, for the Hayek Prize, and on the 23rd to Berlin to see the chancellor, Olaf Scholz.

He had been invited to Italy, where he will not go, by the president of the Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni, with whom he has very good harmony. At the G7 it was expected that she would have an unprecedented meeting with the president of the United States, Joseph Bidenin addition to Scholzthe Japanese Prime Minister, Fumio Kishidaand that of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunakwho has just called elections, the president of Canada, Justin Trudeauwith whom he already communicated virtually.

Zelensky invited representatives to the Peace Summit, both foreign ministers and leaders from more than 80 countries, including the president of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, with whom he went through a tough diplomatic conflict after targeting the first lady for corruption, in response to questions about his mental health from officials of the Spanish administration.

The President boasts of being well known internationally, and he hoped that this tour would allow him to continue in that line, with his “ideas of freedom”, in addition to promoting a deepening of commercial relations, working for Argentina to enter the OECD and NATO, and appear to be an important player in the future of the war between Russia and Ukraine.

The OECD is an international organization based in Paris popularly known as the “club of developed countries.” It is made up of 38 nations, among which emerging powers and states stand out. It is led by the United States, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy and Japan. Colombia and Chile are the only countries in the region that are part of that select group.

Milei was interested in promoting the halting of the agreement project between Mercosur and the European Union, resisted by Macrón, who suffers resistance from local French politics and that is why he does not accept it. Today there are several chips at stake, since the Frenchman is not assured of his interference in the European Parliament. In the appointment of the new European Commission, the pact could gain momentum or slow down.

The reasons for the changes in Milei’s trip were not detailed but they occur after a day of collapse in Merval shares and a rise in the dollar that cast doubt, even in these days, on the situation of the economic crisis that the Government is going through. . And in addition, it adds to the political crisis that began with the departure of Nicolás Posse from the Chief of Staff and continues with the scandal over food stored in warehouses about to expire, for which the head of Human Capital, Sandra Pettovello.
