Jessica Cavallaro, 24, lived with her boyfriend and parents in Bedford, Massachusetts. Her parents, Thelma Tatten and Mark Cavallaro, picked her up from work and took her to her boyfriend’s house. She arrived unexpectedly from work and claimed that she had had a panic attack.

After several hours inside, Jessica got into her parents’ car to go to breakfast. Then, from the back seat of the vehicle, she shot them both in the head, went back into the house and told her boyfriend’s parents what she had done.

Thelma Tatten was pronounced dead at the scene, while Mark Cavallaro was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died. Both were 56 years old.

The gun reportedly belonged to Jessica’s boyfriend and was kept in a safe at her family’s home.

The authorities ordered the detention without bail of the young woman after the double murder that occurred last Thursday morning. Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan said Jessica Cavallaro shot her parents inside a car outside a home on Washington Street shortly after 9 a.m.

Prosecutors said the couple was planning to take their daughter to breakfast when she shot them both in the head.

“Of course, you never want to see anyone dead or injured in any neighborhood,” said the victims’ neighbor, Peter Burke. “When it’s right in your own backyard, it’s a little more impactful,” commented to local media.

Cavallaro is charged with the crimes of murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury and illegal possession of a firearm. She faces life in prison.

So far, investigators have found no criminal record against Cavallaro. In addition, he will undergo a psychiatric evaluation. And he is due back in court on August 20.

Ryan said Cavallaro’s parents also live in Bedford. The couple’s owner, Bob Kurker, called their deaths “shocking.”

The motive for the shooting is still unknown.

“It’s a small town, so we all know each other and know each other,” said neighbor Zoey Kramer. “It’s definitely very stressful.”

“Horrible incidents”

“As you all know, I’ve seen them too often lately,” Ryan told reporters at a news conference. “These are horrific incidents of domestic violence. They also point to what we talk about all the time, which is the prevalence of guns and the availability of firearms. “A lot of the incidents that we’ve had in the last few weeks, the last couple of months, have involved firearms in the hands of people who should not have had them.”

Bedford Police said Washington Street will be closed in the afternoon.
