He traveled to Punta Arenas on Monday for the day with the intention of doing some shopping and some paperwork, but he only arrived as far as the border in the Monte Aymond area where he was detained for having some bullets in his possession.

It is the story of the Argentine citizen Miguel Angel González, who ended up in a cell waiting to be formalized at the Justice Center, a procedure that prosecutor Oliver Rammsy completed yesterday.

Before crossing the border into Chile, this person forgot to remove the 26 bullet cartridges from the glove compartment of his vehicle, which are allowed in his country.

That’s why when they asked him at the border complex if he was carrying any prohibited items, he immediately declared that he had the ammunition. Despite having permission to carry them, of course that document is valid only in his country.

He never hid this information. However, it was of no use to him because he ended up detained and transferred in that capacity to the city of Punta Arenas.

He spent the rest of Monday in the cell and part of yesterday morning, until it was his turn to be formalized at the Justice Center for illegal possession of ammunition.

In the end, the prosecutor considered that it was not necessary to continue with the judicial procedure and ended it through a conditional suspension, with the requirement that the accused make a donation of 100 thousand pesos to the Fire Department. Once that was certified, he could recover his black Volkswagen vehicle and return to Río Gallegos, province of Santa Cruz, Argentina.

The “express” trip for the day was extended to more than 48 hours.

Acquitted

Last week, justice acquitted an Argentine race driver for the same crime, of illegal possession of ammunition.

This was the case of Alejandro Gutiérrez Sesnic, brought to trial for some ammunition that was found in a vehicle.

After a long judicial process he ended up being acquitted, after Chilean Customs officials found 40 22 caliber cartridges on him.

This happened in 2019 when he left El Calafate heading to Río Grande, to participate in the La Hermandad rally.
