Middle East Summary, June 15, 2024.

The Lebanese premier urges the international community to cease Israel’s terrorist campaign against southern Lebanon in the face of escalation between the Zionist entity and Hezbollah.

“The continuation of Israeli attacks in the south and the deliberate murder of its inhabitants, the destruction of villages and the burning of crops is not only a matter for us to condemn and denounce,” Nayib Mikati said this Friday at the beginning of a session of the Council of Ministers, according to a statement from that body.

Tension rises due to the possibility of a direct war breaking out between the Israeli regime and the Islamic Resistance Movement of Lebanon (Hezbollah)

“But it is also a destructive and terrorist aggression described, and the international community must put an end to its persistence and criminality.” [de Israel]”, added the leader during his speech.

Likewise, Mikati has assured that Lebanon is committed to the “full implementation” of UN Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 1701, which ended the 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah.
The current escalation is the worst between both sides since the war 17 years ago, and its intensity has risen sharply in recent weeks.
Hezbollah has carried out 2,125 military operations against Israeli targets and interests since October 8.
The Lebanese Resistance offensives began a day after Israel launched a genocidal war against the Palestinian people in Gaza, which has left more than 37,200 dead so far. Hezbollah has promised to continue retaliatory operations until the occupying regime ceases its attacks on the besieged strip.

Hezbollah hits Israeli military positions in new attacks

Hezbollah carries out a new round of attacks against Israeli military positions in response to the recent assassination of one of its top commanders by Israel.

Sami Abdallah, better known by the nom de guerre Abu Taleb, was killed along with three others in Israeli strikes that targeted a residential building in the southern Lebanese city of Jwaya on Tuesday.

Hezbollah highlighted in separate statements on Saturday that its forces had attacked Israel’s spy equipment and radar systems on Mount Meron with guided missiles, as well as a gathering of occupying regime soldiers in support of Palestinians in the besieged Strip. of Gaza and in response to the assassination of Abdallah.

“In support of our steadfast Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and in support of their brave and honorable resistance, and as part of the response to the assassination carried out by the Zionist enemy in the city of Jwaya, the fighters of the Islamic Resistance , attacked the headquarters of the Air Surveillance and Operations Management Unit at the Meron base with guided missiles, hitting and destroying part of its equipment and radars.”, stated the Lebanese Resistance movement.

Maj. Gen. Ori Gordin, head of the Israeli military’s Northern Command, said Friday that the evacuation of dozens of settlements in the north was Hezbollah’s greatest achievement.

“Looking back, it would have prevented the evacuation of settlements in the north such as Ya’ara, Batsat and Lehman. Hezbollah’s greatest achievement is the fact that there are tens of thousands of displaced people in the north,” Gordin said.

The Israeli regime has repeatedly attacked southern Lebanon since October 7, 2023, when it launched a fierce war in the besieged Gaza Strip that has so far killed some 37,300 Palestinians, most of them women and children.

In retaliation, Hezbollah has launched almost daily rocket attacks against Israeli positions in support of Palestinians in Gaza.

This Wednesday, Hezbollah launched a massive barrage of rockets towards the north of the Israeli-occupied territories. Israeli media reported that the Lebanese movement fired 215 rockets from morning to afternoon on Wednesday.

Likewise, it reported on Tuesday that it had launched 80 rockets and missiles towards Zionist settlements, as well as targets and military positions in northern occupied Palestine, according to the media, in response to the assassination of its commander.
