The Chief of Staff, Guillermo Francos, revealed that the president Javier Milei he wanted his vice, Victoria Villarruelhad the role of breaking the tie for the vote on the Bases Law and dismissed the versions of unrest between the two due to the role that the head of the Senate had in giving the Government the green light in the Upper House on the most important legislative project.
“They are all false rumors,” said the coordinating minister in response to reports of differences between the main leaders of the ruling party. “They try to install these things that have no relation to reality. It was the President himself who asked me to tell him what time I estimated the vote to take place. postpone his trip and that Victoria Villarruel could preside and define with her vote,” Francos explained.
In statements to Radio Miterthe Chief of Staff, explained that the Government knew that “there was a high probability that the vote would end tied 36 to 36, so the president of the Senate had to decide.”
“In any of the cases – if Villarruel or Bartolome Abdalawho is the provisional president of the Senate – the two had the tie-breaking vote, but the President wanted to wait for Victoria Villarruel “She was the one who broke the tie and obtained that important minute in which she, after having helped so much in the treatment of the law in the Senate, could be the one who broke the tie with her affirmative vote,” he explained.
The Chief of Staff also highlighted that Milei “has no problem getting together and having meetings with her vice president, who is her running mate and with her they won the election. We must remove this litter from the environment and continue addressing important issues.” And he insisted that “they are false versions that seek to generate some political instability” that the approval of the Base Law would have generated differences between the two.
“The president has a good relationship with his vice president. On some points they may have differences of opinion, but each one fulfills the constitutional role and they do so in understanding and by common agreement,” Guillermo Francos insisted and recognized that Villarruel “played a fundamental role as president of the Senate.”
Finally, the Chief of Staff spoke about President Milei’s tour of Italy and Switzerland. “It was an excellent trip, having been a figure in the G7 and that his words have been heard by the participating presidents, that he has also been able to greet the Supreme Pontiff and the President of the United States. From every point of view it was an extraordinary trip and of enormous importance for our country.”
In addition to Francos, two officials were key in the framework of agreements: the second in the Cabinet, Jose Rolandi; and the Secretary of Strategic Planning, Maria Ibarzabal Murphy, who were installed in the Senate all last week. Not only did they interact with the opposition, but they saw first-hand how the vice president and head of the upper house moved. Unlike the Executive, Villarruel plays without resources, a detail not insignificant. The officials were surprised.
After what happened in the Senate, the definition was left in the hands of Deputies, who must ratify what was voted by the Upper House or insist on the original version of the projects. As next week will be short – due to the holidays on Monday, Thursday and Friday – the Lower House plans to analyze the projects again between Tuesday, June 25 and Thursday, June 27. Quite a challenge for a Government that, by rushing things in previous months, ended with defeats.
There are two important issues that the Government needs to address in Deputies, through the insistence of the original version of the fiscal package: the reinstatement of the Income tax -governors will have to do their own thing- and winks in Personal Property rates.
