Nearly 60 percent of the Israeli population has shown its support for the ceasefire offer presented by the president of the United States, Joe Biden, which includes the cessation of attacks in exchange for the release of the hostages kidnapped by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) during the October 7 attacks against Israel. A survey by the Jewish People’s Policy Institute shows that around 60 percent are willing to “accept” this plan, which also includes the handing over of hostage bodies and the release of Palestinian prisoners. Biden’s proposal, however, is based on the latest concessions made by the Israeli authorities, although Hamas has once again rejected said pact unless the Israeli authorities guarantee an absolute end to the war. Likewise, the poll shows that the majority of Israelis want the management of the Gaza Strip to be in the hands of the Palestinian authorities once the war ends, as long as Israel is in charge of security. Meanwhile, only 10 percent prefer that the Palestinian Authority manage the area in its entirety, compared to 60 percent who would prefer that this management remain in the hands of Palestinian entities or Arab States. In this sense, a fifth of every Jewish Israeli hopes that it will be Israel that has Gaza under its control when the war ends, according to information collected by the newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’. The survey also indicates that there is a low level of approval of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with 56 percent of Jews pointing to a “great distrust” of his management. 74 percent of the Arab population says they do not trust him. In total, almost three in four Israelis show very little trust in Netanyahu. Likewise, there has been a decrease in trust in senior Army officials, especially among people with more conservative ideology. However, more than half of the Israeli population has expressed that they consider that all citizens of the country “have a common future.”
