According to a statement from the Foreign Ministry, during the meeting the objectives of the Colombian presidency of the AEC were highlighted, which include strengthening the organization by promoting the sustainability and resilience of marginalized communities, with the integration of the ancestral knowledge of indigenous and Afro-Caribbean communities.

In addition, the note added, an agenda that will address the impact of climate change in the region will be prioritized, promoting projects to counteract its effects.

This space for dialogue with the special mission of the AEC, led by its secretary general, Rodolfo Sabonge, is the first event held by Colombia in its capacity as pro tempore Presidency of the Association and included the participation of the vice minister of Multilateral Affairs, Elizabeth Taylor.

The official reaffirmed the country’s commitment to promoting democracy and peace in the region, and stressed the importance of strengthening and promoting cooperation with extra-regional partners to face challenges such as the sargassum crisis and improve connectivity in the region.

The Directorate of International Cooperation and the Directorate of Economic, Social and Environmental Affairs of the Colombian Foreign Ministry also participated in the meeting with the purpose of coordinating the strategic actions to be developed during the Colombian presidency of the ACS, the statement noted.
