Thanks to the Andes, Bogotá was among the best cities in the world to study

The British firm Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) is dedicated to evaluating the best universities in the world to make a classification – in which the Andes and the National are usually the most prominent, fighting for first place in Colombia – although in the latest rankings the School of Engineering of Antioquia, with former Minister José Manuel Restrepo as rector, has even managed to overcome them. Although it also does educational analyzes on other scales, for example, annually they also release a report on which are the best cities in the world for university students and Bogotá, the capital, is the one that always comes out on top.

The 2024 edition was no exception, since, in fact, Bogotá turned out to be the only Colombian city that appeared among the best 150 in the world for QS, contrary to last year when the capital of Antioquia, Medellín, was also represented. . At that time, Bogotá was ranked 90th in the world and Medellín was ranked 139th.

On this occasion, Bogotá dropped positions to be the 110th best in the world, but this was enough for it to be the fifth best in the entire region, where it was only surpassed by Buenos Aires; Santiago; Mexico City and Sao Paulo. According to QS, the capital of Colombia is a better city to study than, for example, Monterrey, Lima and Rio de Janeiro.

Bogotá universities like Los Andes were a fundamental factor

QS highlighted that Bogotá is a diverse, multicultural city with excellent job prospects, three things that had weight when positioning it in this classification. However, the most important thing ended up being the educational quality of its universities, which was reflected precisely in its most important ranking.

A total of 24 Colombian universities appeared there, but Bogotá was, by far, the city that contributed the most and, in fact, the three best in the country according to QS are on capital soil, as is the case of the Andes (179), the National (219) and the Javeriana (377).
