A tank knocked down the doors of the Bolivian Executive headquarters and entered at 3:51 p.m. local time, after the general commander of the Bolivian Army, Juan José Zuñiga, threatened to take the Government headquarters and change the cabinet.

The situation occurred minutes after President Luis Arce denounced irregular mobilizations of uniformed personnel in La Paz.

“We denounce irregular mobilizations of some units of the Bolivian Army. Democracy must be respected,” he indicated in his ‘X’ account.

For his part, the former president of Bolivia Evo Morales (2006-2019) said that a “coup d’état” was brewing in the country after the deployment denounced by Arce became known.

He also called for a “national mobilization to defend Democracy” and accused the commander general of the Bolivian Army Juan José Zuñiga of being at the head of the military operation.

From Chile, President Gabriel Boric expressed: “I express my concern about the situation in Bolivia. “We express our support for democracy in our brother country and for the legitimate government of Luis Arce.”

“We strongly condemn the unacceptable forceful action by a section of the army in that country. We cannot tolerate any breach of the legitimate constitutional order in Bolivia or anywhere else,” he said.
