At least 19 people were killed in an attack, supposedly Israeli, that caused the “total destruction” of a two-story building in the town of Nabatieh, in southern Lebanon, and damage to dozens of neighboring homes and vehicles, reported this Thursday. (06/27/2024) Lebanese state news agency ANN.

The attack took place around 10:00 p.m. local time, when “enemy fighters launched a violent airstrike against a two-story building in the Al Masha neighborhood of the city of Nabatieh, completely destroying it.”

According to the agency, five people were injured and as rescue efforts began “the death toll from the air attack against a building in the Al Mashaa neighborhood in the city of Nabatieh rises to 19.”

ANN noted that this is the first attack against the city of Nabatieh since the outbreak of war on October 7 between Israel and the Hamas group, considered a terrorist organization by several countries, in the Gaza Strip. Israel is also in crossfire with the Lebanese group Hezbollah, which supports Hamas.

Cries for help

“The attack turned the surroundings of the attacked building into a real war zone, as clouds of smoke and dust covered the area and cries for help arose from buildings and houses that were damaged and whose windows were broken, in addition to numerous cars in the neighborhood were damaged,” he described.

Ambulances belonging to the Civil Defense, the Islamic Health Authority, the Explorers of the Islamic Message, the Red Cross and the Nabatieh Ambulance participated in the rescue efforts.

On Monday, June 24, Israeli fighter jets bombed the Bekaa Valley in eastern Lebanon, while Civil Defense firefighting teams worked to extinguish a fire in the area, causing damage to one of their vehicles.

The clashes between the parties are the worst since the war they fought in 2006 and are taking place within the framework of the Gaza war, amid renewed fears that Lebanon will become a second front in the conflict in the Palestinian enclave.
