The BAP Tacna of the Peruvian Navy carried out refueling maneuvers alongside the US destroyer USS Porter.

Within the framework of combined exercises carried out on the occasion of the arrival of the USS George Washington aircraft carrier of the United States Navy, the Peruvian Navy confirmed the carrying out of additional activities with its escort group. In more detail, these involved the combat supply and logistics ship BAP Tacna (ARL-158) and the destroyer USS Porter (DDG-78).

As witnessed during its Southern Seas 2024 deployment, and in the multiple PASSEX exercises with navies in the region, the aircraft carrier USS George Washington is accompanied on its journey to San Diego by the destroyer USS Porter (DDG-78) and the logistics ship USNS John Lenthall. Both units have also carried out various activities with navies in the region, as shown in the navigation and training exercises, such as visit, search and capture training in which the Arleigh Burke ship participated. This is how the most recent exercise and training carried out by the destroyer is reported, in which she sailed alongside units of the Peruvian Navy, highlighting the presence of the logistics and combat supply ship BAP Tacna (ARL-158).

Incorporated at the end of 2014, BAP Tacna is the main Logistics Support Vessel of the Peruvian Navy, focused on refueling and combat supply tasks for the force. Belonging to the Amsterdam class, it was the first of a total of two oil tankers built for the Royal Netherlands Navy. It was ultimately the only one that completed its construction and entered into service, since the remaining unit was cancelled.

In line with his role, and thanks to the photographs released by the force, it was possible to see how he carried out refueling tasks and exercises on the high seas with the USS Porter, as well as with other Navy assets present in this activity. More precisely, to the corvette BAP Guise (which was donated by South Korea) and the missile frigate BAP Coronel Bolognesi (FM-57).

Carrying out replenishment at sea is a vital task to guarantee the operability of ships in an area of operations, both in fleet-level activities or smaller deployments. Vessels like the BAP Tacna, thanks to their multiple fuel transfer stations that also allow increasing the operating radius of the units, as well as other aircraft by having a flight deck.
