They are approaching United States presidential electionto appoint a new leader who will have to assume the situation of this country, considered a world economic power.
In the ring they are donald trump and Joe Biden (for now), who will face each other with the goal of reaching the presidency. Both candidates, belonging to the parties Republican and Democratthey have an enormous responsibility to earn the trust of Americans who stealthily observe their movements.
How are the leaders of the United States elected?
Each 4 years A president is elected by indirect universal suffrage. That is, a Electoral College of 538 members (citizens selected by political parties), are responsible for appoint the new leader according to the popular vote of the state they represent.
The number of electors from each state is proportional to the size of its population; for example, California elects 55 representatives and Texas chooses 38. This happens because both territories are the most populated in the country.
Each state has the right to a certain number of members in this selection body, as well as legislators from Congress. Residents of Puerto Rico and Guan do not vote in elections and have no representation in the Electoral College. To win the presidency, the candidate needs 270 votes+1 of the 538 voters.
There is a key point: the presidential candidate who wins in each state (Trump or Biden), keeps all the Electoral College votes for that statewith the exception of Maine and Nebraska where they distribute them proportionally.
Normally, presidential elections take place on the Tuesday following the first Monday in November. In this case, the vote count will be on the Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
