After completing his activities with the Peruvian Navy, The USS George Washington aircraft carrier of the United States entered Ecuadorian waters to begin exercises and combined activities with the Ecuadorian Navy. As was the case throughout Southern Seas 2024’s deployment, the ship along with its escort group was received by Ecuadorian ships and patrol vessels, while overflights were recorded by the combat aircraft of the air group embarked on board. .
Throughout the month of June, after crossing the Strait of Magellan, the USS George Washington has been carrying out various combined activities with the navies that guard the waters of the South Pacific. Among them were found Chili and Peru recently, which the Ecuadorian Navy has joined since June 26.
As has happened throughout the aircraft carrier’s deployment in South American waters, the USS George Washington, together with the USS Porter (DDG-78) and the logistics ship USNS John Lenthall, has been carrying out various combined PASSEX exercises, in addition to on-board activities and simulated visit, search and capture operations, as protocol acts.
The most recent activities of the aircraft carrier, on its itinerary that will end when it arrives at the San Diego Naval Base, and from there to Japan, began on June 26 when it entered Ecuadorian jurisdictional waters to carry out combined activities with resources and personnel of the Ecuadorian Navy.
Among the assets observed by the Ecuadorian naval force were the Esmeralda Loja class corvette (CM 16) and one of the Stan Patrol 5009 Isla Isabela class patrol boats (LG-31), which were some of the ships that received the aircraft carrier and its escort group. In terms of naval aviation, the landing of one of the AB-206B helicopters of the Ecuadorian Naval Aviation on the USS George Washington was notable, as were flights carried out by the Beechcraft King Air.
