The most important photography festival in Spain returns to Madrid

The international photography festival PHotoESPAÑA 2024 will be celebrated between the days May 10 and September 29with a total of 84 exhibitions and the participation of 293 visual artists. This year, the exhibition will feature three great retrospectives of international authors, Erwin Olafin the first major exhibition dedicated to his work after his death, Boris Savelevwhose work can be seen for the first time in Spain, and the photographer Barbara Brandliwith a wide exhibition of his archive, mostly unpublished.

The Círculo de Bellas Artes will host the group exhibition ‘Perpetuum mobile‘, which brings together the work of 27 photography artists trained in the change from analog to digital. As a novelty, the Teatro Real will also participate as a venue with an exhibition that analyzes the composer’s role as a photographer. Giacomo Puccini (‘La bohème’, ‘Madama Butterfly’, ‘Turandot’).

The spanish photography will be represented at the event with the works of photographers such as Gonzalo Juanes, Javier Campano, Pilar Aymerich and Paloma Navares. At the international level, artists such as the Japanese will participate Masahisa Fukase, Elliott Erwitt and Consuelo Kanaga (United States), the South African David Goldblatt and the Dutch Iwan Baan, among many others.

During the festival, which will pass through cities such as Alcalá de Henares or Alcobendas, you will also be able to enjoy audiovisual projects such as ‘What are you looking at?’, a project by La Fábrica and CaixaForum+ in collaboration with Magnum Photos, three meetings at the Espacio Fundación Telefónica to reflect on the impact of artificial intelligence in the field of visual arts or an exhibition focused on Lilí Álvarez and the pioneers of sport in the Silver Age to celebrate the 100 years of the Spanish women’s olympism, based at the Ortega Marañón Foundation.
