This old country house becomes the small modern and Mediterranean home that we had always dreamed of

Located in Maresme (Barcelona), the comprehensive renovation carried out by Marta Castellano-Mashas transformed a old country house in a comfortable housing, cozy and functionaldue to a interior designnatural and timeless, which prevents visual noise and makes no concessions to the superfluous. “Without losing sight of its essence, the reform avoids a literal reconstruction of what is understood by the traditional Catalan farmhouse to be reborn with a cooler stylewith a industrial touchbut without giving up his Mediterranean character”explains the interior designer.

To adapt this farmhouse, of 160 square meters distributed over two floors, to the needs of a family with children, a new distribution. Thus, in the lower floor a was designed zone of open day, with living room, kitchen and dining room, a games room; a laundry room and guest bathroom; while the superior was reserved for night area with three bedrooms (one en suite) and a bathroom.

The ‘raw’ aesthetic is felt in the interior design with walls of brick and with roofstextures and imperfections that are left in sight to create a feeling of authenticity. Furthermore, Marta Castellano-Mas has also relied on a broad variety of materials ranging from microcement in the soil to noble ones for the content, such as iron, oak wood, handmade ceramics or marble.
