Who reads the most in Chile?
The manager of the Books Category at Buscalibre.com, Daniela BreguelHe said without a doubt young people stand out. “We were able to observe an increase in the consumption of books by young people, where millennials, those between 24 to 34 yearstake the lead with 40%, followed by young adults, who have between 35 to 45 yearswith 23%,” he explained.
What is the most popular category?
The themes and titles vary according to age and gender. The young women prefer youth novels as “Break the Circle” by Colleen Hoover and ““The Map of Longings” by Alice Kellen, while the young men they choose to fiction books as “The Final Empire” by Brandon Sanderson and “The name of the wind” by Patrick Rothfuss.
Likewise, the adult women show preference for female authors, romantic literature and feminist books as “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” by Taylor Jenkins Reid and “Violet” by Isabel Allende. Meanwhile, the adult men are more inclined towards books related to national news, best sellers and historical novels as “Atomic Habits” by James Clear and “Rome is I” by Santiago Posteguillo.
Paper or online format?
Regarding the format of the books, 58% of Chileans buy paper books34% prefer digital books and only 8% lean towards the audiobooks. “It should be noted that women lead the consumption of texts on the Internet with 65%, versus 35% for men,” added Breguel.
And what is the favorite language?
Although the clear preference is Spanishthe purchase of imported books in English has increased by 20% in recent years. “The success of the films or series based on the novels means that these books become in great demand by those people who became obsessed with knowing more about the fictional universe of these adaptations,” commented Daniela.
