The 48th Buenos Aires International Book Fair opened its doors on Tuesday and Wednesday for professional conferences that bring together editors, distributors, literary agents and librarians, and from today it will open to the general public. In these first two days, the Corrientes stand “Avío del alma” has already achieved a significant number of sales and is positioned as a prominent institutional space within the premises.

“We can proudly say that the “Avío del alma” stand stands out at the International Book Fair, as a provincial space that makes visible the work of its authors,” said the president of the Institute of Culture of Corrientes, Architect Gabriel Romero, In addition to specifying that only five provinces have an individual stand in this edition and Corrientes is the only one on the Litoral.

As always happens, the International Book Fair began with professional conferences that bring together the actors who are part of the book value chain, both in the country and abroad. And according to the first data that was released, a positive level of sales was recorded for Germany, Paraguay and local bookstores.

In the case of Corrientes, more than 140 books were sold for a value of $1,300,000, and the visit to the “Avío del alma” stand by the director of the Library of the Ibero-American Institute of Berlin, Peter Altekrueger, stands out, who on this occasion selected 100 titles.

Today the official opening ceremony of the 48th Buenos Aires International Book Fair will be held at the La Rural property in Palermo, and thousands of people are expected to visit daily until May 13.

Corrientes participation

Organized by the Government of the Province, through the Institute of Culture and with the support of the Federal Investment Council (CFI), Corrientes once again has its own institutional space at the Fair. This is the “Avío del alma” stand, in the Ocre pavilion, which gives visibility to more than 260 titles by 180 Corrientes authors, and where daily activities will be carried out that include book presentations and musical shows.

Furthermore, as happens every year, Corrientes will have its Official Event within the framework of the International Book Fair. It will take place on Thursday, May 2, at 8:30 p.m., in the José Hernández room (Red pavilion), with a tribute to Julián Zini, the reading of his posthumous collection of poems “Raíces del alma” and a Chamamecero closing by by Nélida Argentina Zenon and the Playadito Embassy.

The president of the Corrientes Institute of Culture, Architect Gabriel Romero, is expected to participate; the president of the National Academy of Folklore, teacher José Luis Castiñeira de Dios; and the reciter José Lezcano, as well as invited officials and cultural makers.
