“We declare that Charlie Puth should be a more famous artist” is one of the most commented phrases from Taylor Swift’s new album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department’. Another artist named in the lyrics, Patti Smith, had already publicly reacted to Swift’s “exciting” reference. The author of ‘Attention’ took a couple of weeks to do it.
And he has done it in a veiled way and to promote himself: “These last two weeks have been very crazy for the reasons you can already imagine,” Puth wrote in a TikTok video. “But I wanted to share something with you.” Next, Puth shows the snippet of a new song, ‘Hero’, a song that he has kept “in a drawer” for months.
In the video, Puth explains that “sometimes I get nervous when I release songs where I open up too much emotionally,” but that “someone out there” seems to have “sent him a signal.” For this reason, Puth has decided to release ‘Hero’ and have the song serve as the first single from his next album. It is unknown whether ‘Hero’ is dedicated to Taylor Swift or not, but that Swift has been instrumental in Puth deciding to release it seems beyond doubt. On May 24 you can hear it.
