The Book Fury 2024 will take place between May 30 and June 2 at the Estación Mapocho Cultural Center, where more than 270 national and foreign publishers will meet with a variety of books for all types of readers. We talked about this with Simón Ergas, director of La Furia del Libro.
This fair “brings together book producers that are not large transnational companies,” and “we always have spaces for emerging companies that surprise us with innovative projects that no one saw coming,” Ergas began by saying.
Expansion of authors and books
Regarding the great variety of books that exist today, “technology began to allow it due to the digital printing press that lowered costs, the world has also been shrinking in a certain way and there are people who print in China,” explained the director .
“There is also a market point of view, that we have always been accustomed to a few voices publishing books, it could be compared to the phenomenon of the internet and the large media, there is the possibility for each one to make their proposal,” he added.
Regarding the books that reach readers the most, Ergas assured: “when independent publishers start, they mainly work on poetry and narrative and today the diversity is total” and, “we have all kinds of genres at the fair.”
Children’s books
As for children’s books, “before we didn’t only have children’s books, and I saw how year after year between the history and poetry publishers, children’s publishers began to emerge that were not visible,” said Simón.
“That’s why we also decided to grow to give it its own space, for children’s activities so that children have their place,” Ergas explained.
