From ‘Spider-Man’ to the Winter Soldier trilogy, a review of the best of the House of Ideas

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) does not have the impact it had a few years ago, but it continues to adapt those comics that we have come to enjoy so much through its pages. Spider-Man, Wolverine, Jessica Jones and many other characters They have appeared countless times over the years, so we wanted to bring together the best of the best to enjoy superheroes, antiheroes and villains.

It is worth mentioning that in this list we have included comics that have been adapted, more or less faithfully, to cinema and series, as well as those somewhat more unknown that we could see in the future.

The best Marvel books and comics, at a glance

Kraven’s Last Hunt

Spider-Man is one of Marvel’s most iconic characters and there are many comics in which he has starred or in which he has simply appeared as another superhero. There are many comics that have had great relevance, but without a doubt ‘Kraven’s Last Hunt‘ (from 9.45 euros) is the one that has had the greatest impact for years, and it is not surprising, to the point of being adapted in the latest ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’ video game.

In ‘Kraven’s Last Hunt’, the villain has managed to defeat all the animals known to man, but there is only one beast that has resisted him: Spider-Man. In the comic, he will try again to take down Spider-Man, offering a story at the height of the best of the character.

Other Spider-Man comics: ‘Spider-Man: A Lifetime’ (22.80 euros), ‘Spider-Man: Among the Dead’ (23.75 euros).

old man logan

Logan, Wolverine or Wolverine, is one of the most iconic characters today, and his solo films and the X-Men films are largely to blame for this. The antihero also has a good variety and quantity of comics, but one of the most emblematic is ‘old man logan‘ (20.85 euros), a comic that was somewhat adapted into the film ‘Logan’.

In ‘Old Logan’ we see the character trying to live the quiet life he had always sought. But debts knock at his door and he has to accept one last job from Hawkeye, embarking on a Journey through a post-apocalyptic America after the villains’ victory.

Other Wolverine comics: ‘Wolverine: Origin’ (16.10 euros).

Daredevil: Born Again

‘Daredevil’ (Netflix) was a surprise. Partly because of the story that the different seasons focused on, but also because of the great cast of actors. The character also has a large number of comics behind him, but the best known, and one of the best, is ‘Daredevil: Born Again‘ (21.80 euros), a story that will be adapted in the continuation of the series, although it is likely with certain changes.

The hard story of ‘Born Again’ tells, in the first instance, the life of Karen Page, who after trying to make a living as a Hollywood star, ends up playing pornographic roles and with a drug addiction. Kingpin takes advantage of her situation to kill her and Matt Murdock, so we see a devastated Daredevilwho is not able to distinguish between fantasy and reality.

Other Daredevil comics: ‘Daredevil: The Man Without Fear’ (20.90 euros).

The Infinity Gauntlet

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’ are two of the best MCU movies for many reasons, and the comic ‘The Infinity Gauntlet‘ (17.10 euros), which brings together the story of both films, has been considered for years as one of Marvel’s best. Of course, there are many differences between the comic and the movies, but it still maintains everything, or almost everything, that is important.

In ‘The Infinity Gauntlet’ Thanos gets hold of the Infinity Stones and Mephisto, upon finding out, puts himself at his disposal. Silver Surfer is the one who warns Doctor Strange (and not Hulk) and the superheroes, led by Adam Warlock, must face a Thanos succumbed to the rejection of Death.

The Winter Soldier Trilogy

Some of the Captain America films, specifically ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ and ‘Captain America: Civil War’, belong to the ‘Winter Soldier’ comic book trilogy, which is made up of ‘The Winter Soldier‘ (28.50 euros), ‘Civil War‘ (23.75 euros) and ‘The death of Captain America‘ (47.45 euros).

The story of the trilogy begins with the introduction of the Winter Soldier, a character who, after years of inactivity, has returned to work under the command of General Lukin, managing to take over the Cosmic Cube that Red Skull previously owned.

Alias

‘Jessica Jones’ (Netflix) started with a spectacular first season, and all of this is thanks to the performance of Krysten Ritter and David Tennant. The first season of the series was based heavily on one of the character’s best comics, ‘Alias‘ (14.81 euros).

The comic focuses on the early stages of Jessica Jones’ story at Marvel, mentioning and delving into both your current and past lifethus exploring her work as a private investigator and her previous work as a superhero.

secret invasion

Although the series was not successful at all due to certain issues, the truth is that ‘Secret Invasion‘ (14.25 euros) is one of the most interesting comics within the Marvel publishing house. Unlike the ‘Secret Invasion’ series on Disney+, the comic has a great background that develops throughout its pages.

In ‘Secret Invasion’ we find ourselves facing an invasion of Skrulls, aliens who have the ability to alter their shape, and have infiltrated society with a single objective: invade Earth. In the comic we find a great roster of superheroes, something that differs enormously from what we see in the series.

Marvel Encyclopedia

Beyond the comics, we wanted to mention the marvel encyclopedia (33.25 euros) for several reasons. Firstly, because it is a perfect book to get into comics, learn how many characters the publisher has and enjoy its entire history over the years.

But also because, with an encyclopedia that is published until 2019, we can discover and rediscover both characters and comics that we might otherwise miss. Personally, I have a similar edition, somewhat older, with a lot of content about the publisher and a good decade-by-decade review of the publisher, which, like this one we have mentioned, includes a Stan Lee introduction.
