The Fira del Llibre de València has broken its own ceilings in this 59th Edition and has established itself as a sociological phenomenon. Thus, at least the director of the contest, Manolo Gil, describes it as a “sociological phenomenon”, who this morning highlighted thes “long lines” of readers who have formed this year to receive a dedication from their favorite author.

“The assessment is very positive and coincides with the forecast we made -Gil assures-. We made the prediction that it was going to be a Fair of records and not only were we not wrong but it has become the Fair of the Queues. Of these queues, Gil highlighted that of the fans of the writer Inma Rubiales, who on Friday exceeded 700 people, or those of this Sunday morning with Blue Jeans.

A sales increase of up to 10%

“We have had 83 exhibitors in 120 booths, more than 1,500 activities, and that has translated into a very important turnover,” Gil pointed out, who ventured that the turnover figure will be close to one million euros, which was the challenge of this edition. He recalled that the computer system of the booths prevents a more precise count but they already know that there are booksellers who have doubled their sales on some days compared to last year. “This can translate into an increase in sales of around 5 or 10%, with historical records in some cases,” he announced.

Maria BravoPresident of the Fira del Llibre Foundation, has been cautious but clear: «it is the last day, we still do not have the definitive data, but we suspect that the turnover is indeed higher than the previous edition and that the level of acceptance of the people “We, as participants and as readers, think that it has doubled.”

The queues of fans in front of children’s literature authors have also been notable, such as those seen this morning in front of Pedro Mañas and David Sierra, creators of The Good Witch. “Ana Kadabra”, who have dedicated an average of five minutes to personally attend, sign and illustrate the books that their young readers brought them.

And up to 30% on billing

As for data, and always with the caution required by the fact that the Fair has not yet been closed or the final calculations made, Bravo dares to give a figure: “we are talking about between 20 and 30% more turnover in some cases, but it is an approximate figure.

What is confirmed is, in Bravo’s words, “above all the good atmosphere, the people who are still here, the diversity in terms of gender but also in terms of language, which is also important.” And he recalled the success of the tribute to Estellés, which they have noticed in terms of sales of the Valencian author and, in general, in the Valencian language.

Paco Roca, Estellés and Ramón Gener

It is also difficult to say what the best-selling books have been, but the Fira’s management is quite clear about a winner: “El Abismo del Olvido” by the Valencian graphic novelist Paco Roca, who has also been awarded this year with the Lifetime Achievement Award. the Fira in Spanish. His presence has caused some of the longest queues of this edition and the volumes of his comics have not stopped selling during these ten days.

«In Valencian the best-selling book is the Antologia of Vicent Andrés Estellés, ‘Una Tendresa Oculta, Poemes Escollits’, said Manolo Gil, who recalled that his «Llibre de Meravelles» was also sold out, «and then phenomena such as Ramón Gener’s books will be sold out, sales of Maximo Huerta, Sara Torres, César Pérez Gellida, Carme Chaparro, Anna Kadabra in children’s literature, the specialized literature of Lucía Mi Pediatra and in youth literature Inma Rubiales, Alina Not, María Martínez and Cherry Chic.

“I would also highlight,” Gil continued, “that as a sociological phenomenon the Fira has gone beyond the city of Valencia and has become a Fira of regions. It has been easy to find here, such as l’Alcoià, la Ribera, la Marina, la Safor, Camp de Morvedre and Camp de Túria, etc. “People know that it is the great book event not only in the city of Valencia but in the entire Valencian Community.”
