The Juan Meisen Ebene Museum in Puerto Madryn was the scene of an important literary presentation that captured the attention of the local community. The writer Élida Fernández, a distinguished resident of the city, presented her most recent work titled “Espejándo-nos”, which she managed to attract a large group of neighbors who filled the room, showing her enthusiasm and support for the renowned author.

The presentation was directed by Nelcis Jones and Mónica Durán, who introduced the book and facilitated dialogue between the writer and the public.
“Espejándo-nos” is a work that explores the evolution of Puerto Madryn through the eyes of the writer herself, beginning a retrospective journey from her childhood to adulthood, in a context marked by development and constant change.

The title of the book is inspired by an old mirror located on a wall near the Península Valdés Hotel, an object that, according to Fernández, was a silent witness to the transformation of the environment. «I asked myself, how many things has this mirror reflected over the years? “What stories could those reflections tell?” the author shared during the event.

Through its pages, “Espejándo-nos” proposes a tour of various emblematic places in Madryn that until now had not been documented in other publications. The work details visits to places such as the local pier, the primary school, Casa Torrejón and the Hotel Playa, spaces that played a main role in the community life of generations of Madrynenses.

Fernández herself narrates in the first person, which adds an intimate and personal touch to the narrative. “I started writing during the pandemic, taking a tour of my life, but it is also the life of any person from Madryn, especially those descendants of immigrants who grew up here,” she explained. Her story not only covers physical geography, but also social geography, mentioning Loma Blanca and the humble homes in the area, painting a picture of the social and urban evolution of the city.

“Espejándo-nos” is, in essence, an act of memory and farewell to an era and to the generations that grew up together in Puerto Madryn. This literary work not only celebrates the rich local history, but also invites us to reflect on the changes that the community has experienced in recent decades.
