Several years have passed since this controversial event, and Carolina Cruz decided to tell the truth behind the book knife holder. In its podcast My truth, my footprints, the presenter ‘uncovered’ herself and revealed why she thought of teaching viewers how to make this object.
«I started looking for ideas for things to do at home, so that housewives at home could make vases, games for their children, educational things to have time (…) I got on Pinterest, which is a social network which I like a lot, because I find many ideas (…) And I started looking for options for things that can be done at home. A number of options began to appear: picture frames, vases, games for children, sewing boxes, coffee tables, candles, candle holders and I came up with a knife holder that was made with books. “A kitchen knife holder, but it was made with books,” initially counted.

Cruz said that the searches he did yielded knife holders that could be made in different ways. Likewise, he pointed out that he proposed the idea in a work WhatsApp group and did not receive negative criticism, but only approvals for his idea.
“I started to see on Pinterest… If you go on Pinterest and post knife holders, you will see that I am not telling you lies. There are hundreds of options for making knife holders with books. So, I looked at it, there were some very nice ones… I never saw it on the negative side, which is why everyone started to see it. I started sending the ideas to the group and they all accepted me. Nobody saw him wrong. And in the group we were between 15 to 30 people: directors, journalists, presenters, everything, production people. Everyone saw it as normal, they saw it as good. “He didn’t see anything wrong with the knife holder,” he counted.
The presenter pointed out that she never thought that the book knife holder caused tremendous controversy on social networks, Well, many people knew his idea and no one thought it was crazy.
“The program ends, I go off the air and they start writing to me. At that time I had Twitter and Instagram already existed, and when I see that I am a trend. And I said: but why trend? (…) I did not understand why this had taken on such a large dimension, when that was never the shape or the style or the message that we wanted to send from the knife holder (…) The idea was never to kill or assassinate or put an end to literature. It never crossed my mind”, he added.
Cruz mentioned that this episode affected his life and that today he regrets having made the video in which he apologized, because he knows that he did nothing wrong. Likewise, he pointed out that everything was a matter of interpretation of Internet users on social networks, who generally look for negative reviews.
